Many of you on the island attended the film GO FISH at the Church and Gathering Place. It was a wonderful event. We thought you might enjoy reading this follow up note from the event sponsors, Comox Valley Arts.
Referring to the screenings of GO FISH on Denman, Jennifer Casey (Executive Director, CV/Arts) writes:
We knew the endeavour would be an exciting logistical challenge for a small arts organization, but we didn’t expect to experience how a short film starring two islands and a highly divisive issue could work as a community building opportunity and bring people together. Over 4 half-days of screenings we welcomed over 800 viewers to the sanctuary of the Denman Island United Church. We saw big smiles, and faces drenched with tears, we heard people talking about the herring, about fishing, sharing concerns and experiences and expressing awe and wonder at the magnificent cinematic experience created by Scott and Nettie. We are very thankful to our dear friends at the United Church, who showed us the definition of a compassionate and welcoming community. We absolutely loved every minute of this project and look forward to working together on more projects in the future.
