I would like to share a video reflection by the Rev. Deb Anderson-Pratt. I have taken a few Indigenous ministry courses with her, and I have learned almost as much from knowing her as I did from the instructors. Deb is now minister of a fledgling ministry called Regina Native Outreach Ministry in North Central Regina, one of the poorest neighbourhoods in Canada. The photo above shows her at their recent community feast supported by several other UCC congregations in Regina.
One of the things that Deb always says is “nothing about us without us” but as you know it can sometimes be a challenge to hear Indigenous voices. As I listened to her reflection, I realized that it was more important to foreground her voice for the Indigenous Day of Prayer rather than my settler voice, however well intentioned I might be.
So please give your attention to this video. I am donating my fee for this service to the ministry that Deb serves. If you also wish to donate, please contact me for more information. Unfortunately, they don’t have a charitable organization number yet so they can’t issue tax-deductible receipts.
